Space sector overview

In 2023, the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology (MTCIT) unveiled the Oman Space Policy and Executive Program for 2023-2033. This ambitious plan sets Oman’s sights on becoming a gateway to a sustainable digital economy, driving economic diversification and unlocking future opportunities.

Oman’s space expenditures are estimated at US$23 million in 2023. The government’s public civil and defense entities in Oman predominantly allocate investments in the sector to acquire data and services from foreign space assets, particularly in the Telecommunications and Earth observation fields.

Following the publication of the country’s space policy and program, the country’s expenditures are expected to rise in the coming years. Some discussions are notably ongoing regarding the procurement of a telecommunications satellite.. Beyond, the country is expected to further develop local capabilities while leading some EO projects, mainly in the downstream field.
