This session will provide our attendees with the fundamentals of international and national regulations to be considered when implementing space projects (module 1). Based on these principles, they will be driven through the regulatory specifics governing satellite-based communications (module 2) and Earth observation systems and services (module 3).

Senior Consultant, Space Law and Policy Expert, Black Holes

Frans Van Der Dunk is the Harvey and Susan Perlman Alumni / Othmer Professor of Space Law at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s LL.M. Program on Space and Telecommunication Law. He also is Director of Black Holes BV, a consultancy specialized in space law and policy, based in Leiden. Previously, he was Co-Director, then Director of Space Law Research at the International Institute of Air and Space Law at Leiden University since 1990.

He has written over 120 articles and published papers and was a visiting professor at some 25 different universities across the world on subjects of international and national space law and policy, international air law and public international law.

Pr. Von der Dunk is also Director Public Relations of the International Institute of Space Law (IISL), Member of the Board of the European Centre for Space Law (ECSL), and Member for the Netherlands in the International Law Association’s (ILA) Committee on Space Law.
