Tokyo-based JSAT was established in 1985. In 2007, JSAT merged with its biggest customer, Japan’s DTH pay-TV platform SkyPerfecTV, to form the new, vertically integrated DBS company Sky Perfect JSAT Corporation. In 2008, the new group acquired Japan’s second FSS operator, Space Communications Corp. (SCC). Sky Perfect JSAT has a dominant market position in Japan with satellite infrastructure and multichannel pay-TV businesses. The satellite segment provides capacity and fixed and mobile communication services for public agencies, public institutions and enterprises and broadcasters. JSAT has a fleet of 16 GEO satellites, two of which are backup satellites, as well as 1 hybrid satellite, Superbird-9, currently under construction.
